About Me

I immigrated to the US 12 years ago with my husband and children from Canada. We have lived in Texas, Missouri, and Illinois. It took us eight year to receive our Green Cards, which means we are legal permanent residents. It will be another two before we can apply for US citizenship and have the right to vote. Currently, I am completing courses required for a BSN, and have applied to ACC’s nursing program. I have enrolled in this government class because it is a required course for my degree. However, it is a course I have wanted to take because I want to understand the US government and political system better. Having come from Canada, our political system is different in many ways but I need to understand the US system better to truly make legitimate comparisons. I am 50, so I have experienced many things and events in my life so far. However, I must admit, even though I like to stay informed about current events, and watch/read the news, I am one of those people who became disenchanted with politics for a variety of reasons, and have become less interested and disengaged. Subsequently, I was not surprised when I received a 70% on the current events quiz, and a 66.67% on the civics quiz. I did not know about the wall of separation, puritans, bill of rights, new deal & Supreme Court. This course will be a challenge for me because I have so much to learn and understand (thus my blog title) but I am looking forward to it.
